Come and See the View, Kathy Hinde, UK

Over the last decade Kathy Hinde’s work, explores the unique characteristics of particular places and sites. In her latest installation, Come and See the View, she explores temporality and transcendence within a controlled, internal micro-site, which simultaneously connects and conjures up images of outdoor, distance and remote places.

As a block of ice slowly melts, it is captured and enlarged via a video camera, to create a projection reminiscent of arctic tundra. The piece is initially viewed in darkness – and no projected image can be seen until the light is triggered when someone enters the space and approaches the work – at which point the illusion of an arctic scene is projected.

To see the view – one must risk prematurely melting the ice.
